Lake Norman – 11/21/20

Details Provided By: Chris Corriher

The second stop of the trail for the 2020-21 North Carolina BASS High School and Junior Series landed on another perfect weather day at Lake Norman! The morning was chilly and at Blast Off it was around 39 degrees for the 57-boat field! The guys and girls left in pursuit of limits of largemouth and spotted bass that swim in Lake Norman. Eventually, the temps reached a warm 70 degrees by the afternoon as all in attendance were blessed with a nice day of fishing.

Recent heavy rains had stained much of the normally clear Lake Norman waters, and the fish seemed to love it. There were 27 limits of 5 bass brought to the scales. After finishing a close second at Lake Tillery, Traydun and Chayd Freeze from Rowan County (RoCo) Anglers won the Junior division with an impressive 5-fish limit weighing 12.45 pounds. Their catch was the fourth highest weight recorded Saturday. They received 1st place plaques and tackle packs from Denver Tackle.

Taking third place (for the second tournament in a row) in the High School division were Josh Price and Ashton Fox from Spartan Bass Fishing with five fish weighing 12.47 pounds! Each received a plaque and a Water Wood crankbait. Second place was anchored by the big fish of the tournament, a 6.22 pound largemouth weighed in by Reed Johnson and Brooks Berry of Freedom High School. The big fish kicked the weight of their limit up to 13.50 pounds! They received plaques for second place, Water Wood crankbaits, and Lew’s rods. They also received the big fish plaque, apparel from Woods to Water Outdoor Company, and Shane’s Baits A- Rigs for the big fish.

And taking the BIG win from Freedom High School, National Qualifiers Hunter Keller and Daniel Brackett won with a 5 fish limit worth 13.63 pounds!! This is the second win in the season for Keller as he won at Lake Tillery fishing alone. The pair took home new Dobyns rods, Water Wood Crankbaits, and the High School Champion plaques. Congratulations!

There was a wonderful crowd on hand who helped raise $500 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in a little over an hour and a half!! Water Wood Custom Baits had donated two limited edition, autographed crankbaits to raffle off with all proceeds going to St. Jude’s. The ticket sales were limited to 100 tickets at $5.00 each. We sold out!! This speaks volumes to the type of people we have supporting the trail. The tickets selling out shows their generosity and caring spirit towards this worthy cause. Thank you everyone!!
