Lake Norman – 2/27/21

The third event of the trail for the 2020-21 North Carolina BASS High School and Junior Series was held out of Beatty’s Ford Landing at Lake Norman. The morning was chilly and overcast and at Blast Off it was around 36 degrees for the 52-boat field! The anglers again left in pursuit of heavy limits of largemouth and spotted bass that swim in the lake. The overcast never subsided and temperatures never reached the forecast 60+ degrees. The cooler temperatures and overcast made for finicky and uncooperative bass when compared to the Fall tournament. Simply put, the bite was tough!
There were only a dozen limits of 5 bass brought to the scales. Fishing in their first tournament, Riley’s Catch anglers Luke Bramhall and Jack Smith won the Junior division with an impressive 5-fish limit weighing 10.73 pounds. Their catch was the fourth highest weight recorded Saturday. They received 1st place plaques and will receive tackle packs from Denver Tackle.
Taking third place in the High School division (fishing by himself) was Nathan Trull from RoCo Anglers with five fish weighing 11.65 pounds! Nathan received a plaque and a Water Wood crankbait. Second place also went to another RoCo Anglers team consisting of Carson Palmer and Harrison McCall. Their solid 5 fish limit tipped the scales to 12.53 pounds. They received plaques for second place, Water Wood crankbaits, and Shimano rods for their efforts.
And taking the victory for the second event in a row, Freedom High School’s Hunter Keller and Daniel Brackett won with a 5 fish limit weighing an impressive 14.82 pounds!! This is the third win in the season for Keller as he won at Lake Tillery fishing by himself. The pair took home new Shimano rods, Water Wood Crankbaits, and the High School Champion plaques. Congratulations!
