Lake Hickory Wrap Up – April 24, 2021
Details Provided By Chris Corriher
With predictions of a cool, rainy day in the forecast, forty-five die hard High School and Junior Series teams arrived at Lake Hickory for the fifth event of the 2020-21 season. Fortunately, the rain held off during check-in and blast-off, and there was no fog delay this time around! The eighty plus anglers and their boat captains blasted off in search of pre-spawn and spawning largemouth and spotted bass. Several teams came in early, but we received word that there were definitely some bass biting on Lake Hickory.
There were two teams that found the right size bass to push for the win and the McDowell County team of Ty Allison and Michael “Three” Young brought in a solid limit of five fish weighing 14.78 pounds to claim the win! They were awarded the High School Champions plaques plus Shimano SLX rods and Water Wood Custom Baits.
The RoCo Anglers team of Jon Luke Foster and Gavin Mincey finished a tantalizingly close second place with five fish that weighed in at 14.64 pounds! They took home the second-place plaques, Shimano SLX rods and Water Wood Custom Baits. The Downeast Fishing team of Ethan Gilbert and Cody Anderson ventured West and brought another quality limit to the scales that weighed 12.55 pounds! They won the third-place plaques and Water Wood Custom Baits.
With Academy Outdoors onboard as a sponsor, we were able to send the fourth-place team of Tyler Eggers and Duncan Prince (Spartan Bass Fishing – 11.88 pounds) and the fifth-place team of Carson Palmer and Harrison McCall (RoCo Anglers – 10.93 pounds) home with Academy Gift Cards.
In the Junior Series, the Riley’s Catch team of Luke Bramhall and Jack Smith won their second tournament of the year narrowly edging the Fuquay Varina team of Kieran Stephenson and Grady Stanley. Luke and Jack brought a limit to the scales that weighed 8.10 pounds which was good enough to win the first-place plaques for the Junior Series! They also were awarded tackle packs from Denver Tackle plus Academy Gift cards. Kieran and Grady’s second place weight of 7.68 pounds won the team Academy Gift cards.
The big fish of the tournament was a beautiful 5.98-pound largemouth landed by Cody Wyatt and Jake Upright. The giant was caught on a Magdraft swimbait and won the pair hats and apparel from Woods to Water Outdoor Company.
As always, we would like to thank our sponsors: Academy Outdoors, Denver Tackle, Goosehead Insurance, Skyline Marine, Water Wood Custom Baits, and Woods to Water Outdoor Company. And we need to give a shoutout to the volunteers who helped with the tournament: Todd Bare, Deanna Garmon, and all the usual clean-up crew who are absolutely fantastic at getting us loaded up and on the road! Thank you all! See you at State Championships May 15th!
